Savings on utilities, both water and electricity, are still possible. With gas we only prolong the inevitable. With the cellular rate, the best thing to do is to get a cheaper plan.
Water care is everyone’s responsibility. Although the tariff is an assault between low consumption and a quadruple payment for sewer maintenance, which is not met, hence the flooding in the streets, we must take care of it and not pollute a finite resource.
Let’s start by checking faucets, toilets, shower heads for leaks. The phrase “drop by drop the water runs out” is true. One small leak and the rate increases and the resource is wasted.
Install a low-flow showerhead. These are wise ways to save water and money. The part is relatively inexpensive and is designed to deliver less liters per minute than conventional ones.
Water-saving toilets. Ask where toilets are sold which ones have a smaller flush volume.
Washing the car efficiently. The eternal debate of washing the car with water. Many people use at least two buckets of water or less to wash the car and there are those that for a family the car is a living being. Now there are power washers and if not, then the old-fashioned way, but moderately.
Upgrade your dishwashers and clothes washers. Technology is advancing and now these devices use less water. They are a little expensive but the savings in electricity and water will be greater.
Collects rainwater. To water the plants instead of putting the hose and watering and watering. You will save a lot of time.
Becoming conscious of water use. It is disturbing that in Guatemala there is no water law, that is, that the resource is respected and that those who abuse the resource, benefit from it and endanger the lives of others are prosecuted. We can raise awareness and take care of the resource. Don’t waste it, appreciate that you have it, many people have to buy it. It does not reach the pipes because unscrupulous people sell it to them.
Someday we will be able to use and recycle our gray water for toilet flushing and save even more. In the meantime, break wasteful habits and treasure it because there are cities in the future that will have days without water.
