A little over a year ago, Corporación Multi Inversiones -CMI- announced the placement of US$1 billion in green bonds and a syndicated loan. This placement is the largest in Central America and the Caribbean by a 100% renewable energy company. In this way CMI Energía made its debut in international markets.
CMI Energía is a renewable energy company, headquartered in Guatemala, with presence in 16 countries. According to what I have researched of this large bond placement, CMI will seek to increase its investments to increase its portfolio, that is, diversify its renewable energy projects to continue driving the change in the energy matrix and energy independence where they have a presence, creating more jobs and optimizing the cost of energy.
Another of CMI’s major commitments is to contribute to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and decarbonization.
As part of the 2030 agenda where the UN developed a list of 17 Sustainable Development Goals and clean energy, it is in the SDG7 principle where CMI has designed a long-term growth strategy by investing in clean energy projects.
The successful placement of bonds, historic in fact, reflects that there is a market where investors from many countries want to invest in renewable energy because the new business models are aimed at improving the world.
These are the first steps to making a real change in the environment. It is great that companies and investors are moving into business areas that bring development and sustainability. It is important to understand and accept that betting on development will create more jobs, sustainability and improve the quality of life of people and the planet.
It is in this way that regions, communities, sectors and companies communicate, interact and forget old grudges in order to move towards a better world. It is the only way. Bravo to CMI.
